And here I am in Leon ready to strike out on the Camino again. This afternoon I dutifully inspected the light-filled cathedral and the signature Gaudi. However the highlight was the amazing guitarist in the plaza right next to the monastery where I am staying. All the plazas were filled with people celebrating May Day.
Hi Kate
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know you've been able to rejoin the path - hopefully feeling much restored after your time in Sarajevo. We loved the picture of the mountain shack and pre-training walk - what a different and still amazing landscape. Leon was our luxury stop - we managed to score a room in the Parador, and a bath!!!! And we can still remember the breakfast buffet! We were looking at some photos of a friend's Camino here in New Zealand (we've been in Auckland for a Courage & Renewal gathering) and she stayed in the large monastery in Leon - so we're thinking you might be in the same place.
We resonated with your comment about the guitarist in the plaza - so often the musicians outside the church captured the spirit and mood of the pilgrims more than the formalities going on inside these grand ecclesial buildings. Wait till you get to Galicia - Celtic territory - the buskers are amazing - Spanish bagpipes, strings, whistles and all.
We hope you have a great night in this beautiful city, and a gentle walk tomorrow past the 'hobbit houses'.
Buen camino,
Neil and Sarah
